About This Site

This site is a brief introduction to techniques for data organisation, graphics, and analyses, including:

This site integrates different techniques used by researchers and postgraduates at the University of New South Wales, Australia, who have provided their knowledge and skills to assist others develop skills for rigorous environmental science.

Resources were developed initially to assist with teaching quantitative skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales, supported by a Learning and Teaching Innovation Grant to Alistair Poore, Will Cornwell, Iain Suthers and Richard Kingsford. Development of the second generation of this site saw migration to GitHub and Hugo, led by Dr Fonti Kar and A/Prof Daniel Falster and with the support of the Evolution and Ecology Research Centre. In 2026 we undertook a major upgrade to Quarto and a new structure, led by A/Prof Daniel Falster, Prof Will Cornwell and Prof Alistair Poore.

Site migration history

2026 migration from Hugo to Quarto

In 2026 we migrated the site from Hugo to Quarto and substantially updated the website structure.

The old site had one page per topic. In the book, related pages are combined into chapters (for example, the three mixed-model pages are now one chapter with three sections), grouped into parts. Every old address redirects to its new chapter and section.

2022 migration from Wordpress to Hugo

In Feb 2022, the site was migrated from Wordpress to Hugo. These old Wordpress URLs should be redirected to their current pages using aliases, as they have been embedded in various course materials and distributed over the web.
